Coyote Valley is a vital connectivity point between the Santa Cruz Mountains and the Diablo Range in the Coastal Ranges of California for wildlife movement. With the loss of this last linkage point between the two mountain ranges, wildlife will suffer by the lack of genetic exchange, especially the Santa Cruz Mountain Lion population possibly resulting in extinction. Developers have been trying to develop Coyote Valley for decades, but so far have been unsuccessful. Through the research of the De Anza College Wildlife Corridor Stewardship Team, Coyote Valley has been established as a wildlife “hot spot” in California. Over 170 species of bird have been observed, including 21 species of raptor, and over 15 species of mammal including Mountain Lion and American Badger.
